Description
- Height & Weight: about 5'6"/1.7m nose to rump, about 3'4"/1.7m shoulder height, about 140lbs/64kg
- Apparent Age: Adult
- Character Build: Average
- Body Type: Quadruped
- Usual Clothing: Fur. And maybe some random accessories if he can get anyone to put them on him
- Voice: : Spotted Hyena. He thinks he's great at talking, but it's a testament to the pattern recognition capabilities of the humanoid brain anyone can understand him.
- Usual Scent: Spotted Hyena, though he's had his more odoriferous scent (and butter) glands removed to make living with "more civilized" folk easier, and on a fresher diet he doesn't smell so bad. Also, apothacary, satchel, Shana, and magic for those so inclined.
He looks like a typical spotted hyena: stocky, stubby rear legs, spots, mohawk lookin thing. Except his tail, he has an awesome explody lookin tail.
He's short haired in the summer, floofy in the winter, and sheddy in the spring.
Not like a regular hyena, he has a couple of data ports and a Mini-TRS (1/8") jack just behind his ears. (Dedicated video out behind right, optical data and miniTRS behind the left) They're normally covered by protective flaps of skin, which also conveniently camoflauge them.
Also not like a regular hyena, his forepaws are now able to grip things, and he can articulate the digits indepenantly of eachother like rudimentary fingers, and he has opposable thumbs. They aren't hands, except for the thumbs, but do allow some amount of gripping and rudimentary dexterity.
History
He was conceived (Double conception, twins) and born in a lab, although he was an in utero birth. Far as he knew, everything was hunkydoory, and so he didn't concern himself with such silly things as morals. Well, okay, he wasn't old enough yet.
After about 5 years, he was fitted with the first cybernetic/organic components, which would later be replaced by better hardware as he grew provided such hardware became available. He spent a decent amount of time on the internet until that was closed off. For awhile. Despite best attempts, the hyenas kept working around that, so finally they had to spend some time with digital wireless capabilities disabled.
Tests happened, and as successful projects are wont to, it was deemed a success and moved to phase 3, which meant the phase 2 subjects were no longer necessary and were to be sedated and taken to Uncle Bob's Farm, which is a euphemism. The transportation carrying the hyenas was redirected by some of the staff members, redirected again by other staff members, redirected yet again by some less than scrupulous individuals, and most certainly not headed for Uncle Bob's Farm any more. En route to where ever the less scrupulouses were off to, the hyenas awoke and managed to work their way out.
After some clever route retracing and some radio work, the hyenas reunited with the staffers and lived happily ever after until an interdimensional portal happneed and took Dave away.
Homeworld
Earthish, not too far from now. Obviously to a point where gengineering and cybernetic stuff is more feasible, and the US hasn't imploded.

Thumb like appendages
Shana gave him more or less permanent thumbs! His other foredigits are somewhat more movable, too. Now if only he could walk on his hind legs for longer periods...
Those are pretty paranormal for hyenas.
Skywalking
Dave commissioned the Druids for skywalking so he could easily explore areas to put his mapper to use. After further interactions they have decided to just keep reupping it because it's hilarious. This may be why some people are mildly annoyed with them.
Emergency Teleport
Dave commissioned a locomancer for an emergency one-way single-use teleport which will zap him from anywhere on the island, possibly further, into the Marsillion town square. He has to get it redone if he uses it, and it's not cheap.
Other spells
He has a number of minor spells and cantrips commissioned from various mages. Some examples include:
- Smoke Screen: Emits a cloud of smoke around him. He mainly uses it as a contrail when running away really fast from something to give the appearance of blasting off. It is useful for obfuscation, too.
- Strip: Removes one or any number of articles of clothing, accessories, or other adornments. Take that, evil pants mage.
- Dispel/Disenchant: Removes an externally applied enchantment or other magical effect. Only rated for weaker/transient effects. Mostly a convenience spell.
- Explosive Dispel: The same as above, but blowing the effect off to everything around him. He has this version for shiggles.
- Concussive Blast: A sudden concussive blast is loosed upon the target in the direction he desires.
- Containment Circle: A circle he can deploy anywhere he can touch, which has spiritual, demonic, and physical components. It's not the best circle, but it sure is convenient. Recently found to be handy when needing to clean up demonguts.
- Air Bubble: Clears out and sustains an oxygenated air bubble around him! Works well in a vaccuum, but can't go too deep under water or else it will get compressed too small to be of any use.
While he can cast them and target them, he can't recharge them himself, nor can he actually manipulate the spells in him. They're basically prepackaged. Maybe some day he'll develope some magicality. He certainly is saturated by Shana's potionstuffs.
Easy to Fleshmold
Due to regular exposure to Shana's reagents, he's more or less permanently susceptible to her fleshmoulding abilities. So far, this has not had any unfortunate side effects in the field.
