He has fought bees. And fish. Didnâ http™t do too well against either of them.
Paranormal Abilities
- Shapeshifting
Effect He can shift into a young adult Grizzly. Limits There is no â httpœanimal mindâ http that comes along with the form. Since he views his ability to shift as more of a burden than a gift, he has fairly limited practical experience in this form, besides occasionally waking up as one. Repercussions Shifting also takes a fair amount of energy, and therefore tends to make him hungry. Strong emotions that elicit the Fight or Flight response can cause his voice, eyes, teeth, or ears to change slightly.
- Longevity
Effect Provided nothing kills him, he'll have a life span of ~300 years. Limits While he ages slow, this has no affect on his ability to recover from things.
Background
World Information:
Dresden Files Universe, circa Cold Days (2015). Modern day Earth, with a â httpœhiddenâ http world of magic. Pretty much anything fantastical exists or has existed at some point on Earth or in the Spirit World (the Nevernever). The magical community is reeling from the appearance of a new magical nation called the Fomor, who appeared in the aftermath of the war between the White Council of Wizards and the Red Court of Vampires.
Character Background:
Born in San Diego, California, Danny was raised by his mother and stepfather, as his father left her before he was even born. The oldest of 4 kids, and a cousin or second cousin to about 2 dozen others in his generation, he was surrounded by a large family. He did, however, seem different from most of the other boys in his family though, showing a lot more interest in the arts than his brother or any of his male cousins. However, the Ibanez family, though staunchly Catholic, figured he would grow out of it. Alas, he never did, and the stereotypes provided true: Danny ended up coming out as gay in high school. Reaction was wildly mixed, with one aunt threatening to disown Danny and never go to any family events where he was present, but his mother ferociously defended him. When Dannyâ http™s Grandmother (and Matriarch of the family) ultimately accepted Danny, negative reactions became grumbles. Since Danny has thus far not brought any guys to family events, the grumbles has stayed merely grumbles.
Academically, Danny was a pretty bright student, though not a particularly diligent one. He did throw himself fully into theater and music in the immediate aftermath of coming out as a sort of refuge. It was around this time that puberty was especially kind to him and turned his rather squeaky voice into a gorgeous tenor, and ended up starring in his High Schoolâ http™s yearly musical in his senior year. He then went to DePaul University in Chicago, eventually majoring in Classics and Vocal Performance, both of which he excelled at. A couple of years later, he graduated again from DePaul with his Masters in Vocal performance.
Unlike a lot of other people in the Dresden Universe, Dannyâ http™s magical abilities did not manifest at the beginning of puberty. It manifested a little bit after he turned 22, when he was jumped by some thugs when he was walking him from a bar. He does not remember much, other than a lot of pain, a couple of slurs, and thenâ http¦ nothing. Next thing he knew, he woke up back in his apartment, sans cloths, and looking radically different. Danny had been a fairly thin guy, a stereotypical twink, but upon waking up he found himself slightly taller, and sporting both a fair amount of muscle, fat, and body hair. What truly freaked him out, however, was when a man showed up as his door later that day who claimed to be his father. He did in fact look exactly like his father did in a picture that Dannyâ http™s mom had shown him many years ago; in fact, too perfectly exact, as the man did not look he had aged at all in those 22 years.
Dannyâ http™s father had, in his one moment of feeling fatherly responsibility, had shown up to keep Danny from accidentally doing something stupid or deadly. In one evening, all of Dannyâ http™s assumptions about the universe were demolished, as his father tried to explain to him how the world really was, and what had happened to Danny. Naturally, Dannyâ http¦ took it poorly. After a couple hours, Danny ultimately demanded that his father leave, and to not come back. He spend the next couple of weeks trying to at once come to terms with his obvious sudden transformation while trying to forget the rest of what his father told him.
His father showed up again, about a month later, and Danny proved a little more receptive. This was in part due to waking up multiple times as a bear, and he was desperate to learn how to control it. What ensued was a trip up to Alaska via shortcuts through the Nevernever, the one and only time Danny had ever been anywhere that could be described as wilderness. No one could claim it was a rousing success, but Danny did learn the basics of how to control his abilities. And having fulfilled his fatherly obligations, Dannyâ http™s father then took him back to Chicago, and disappeared.
Danny soon graduated and moved away from Chicago (in part due to a couple of rumors he heard about the war between the Wizards and the Red Court) and moved to Seattle after he landed a job with the Seattle Opera. For the most part after that, Danny purposely avoided any of the magical community in Seattle, preferring to company of the musical and LGBT community instead.
However, that did not necessarily protect him from the Magical communityâ http™s problems. Unbeknownst to Danny, a new power appeared, the Fomor, who began kidnapping small time practitioners, anyone with a little bit of magical power, a category that Danny fell squarely into. One night, he was (again) walking home from a bar when suddenly he felt something sharp underneath his shoulder and then blacked out. In a stroke of luck, though, instead of getting taken for God knows what purpose by the Fomor, Danny ended up disappearing entirely...
