Marsilion is the central location of the Infinitas setting. It is a city composed of 5 separate districts, with roads travelling between them. These districts are situated near and along the coast of Lake Moriana. The districts themselves are home to around ten thousand people. The extended area nearby, composed of farms villages and towns, known as the Marsilion Metro Area, is home to around six thousand more.

The city serves as a site of unusually high interdimensional portal activity, tending to draw in newcomers to its region. To help newcomers get on their feet, each district has its own dedicated welcome center.


Marsilion is located along the southwest border of Lake Moriana, a clear freshwater lake which provides food and transport. A couple of rivers run through the city, flowing away from the lake. The land is fairly flat to the south, but more hilly along the western coast of the lake. Thick forest surrounds the areas of land that arenâ₠http™t cleared for farming. Those areas which are cleared out are very fertile, and are carefully managed using advanced knowledge of agriculture, combined with druidic and other nature based magics.

Government and Society

The government of Marsilion is a democratic city council, with 20 aldermen representing the city and its various outlying villages and towns. The current mayor is Harold Vaughn, of the Tallow Party. The city council holds command over the Marsilion Armed Forces, and the Marsilion Guard. The townships of Glass Scale and Bannocbuk use their own dedicated guard forces, but are part of the city council and are protected by the MAF.

The city council is responsible for collecting taxes, and spending them appropriately on services such as the Guard, roads and infrastructure, and the Welcome centers, for example. In times of crisis, the MAF has been authorized considerable power to act without seeking permissions from the council, so long as they abide by the preset rules of conduct.

Architecture and Infrastructure

The majority of buildings in Marsilion are built of wood and stone, usually not reaching higher than 2 stories tall. Some wood and stone buildings reach as high as 5 stories, but these are uncommon. Concrete is used in some rare, larger buildings which house wealthier or more important functions. For most residential buildings, houses are half timbered and resemble medieval or renaissance architecture.

A growing electrical grid, maintained by a utilities commission, exists. The central power grid was only recently added, so many buildings lack electrical wiring. However, newer homes are being built with it, and services exist to retrofit older homes with electrical wiring that complies with local ordinances. Most districts of the city use their separate power grids, but there are plans to build transmission lines so that the power between the districts has better redundancies.

Most of the power is generated by either wind or hydroelectric sources, diverting a section of the rivers flowing out of Lake Moriana. Some magically powered electric generators exist, but these are typically small scale and used as local backups for those that can afford them.

Running water is available in most places from a municipal water source. With abundant fresh water available, several pumping stations exist on the edge of the lake, where water is treated with magical â₠httpœcleanse waterâ₠http pipes as well as some conventional filtration. Each district has a water tower or two to provide pressure, and the majority of buildings have running hot and cold water.

Sanitation is provided by the water utility, sending wastewater to a treatment area before it is dumped in the lake or river. Storm sewers also exist to help prevent flooding, and it is legal to dump household wastewater into these so long as it meets certain sanitation requirements. Many houses have their own cleanse water pipes to be able to drain into the sewer.

Natural Gas is plentiful and used for heating and lighting, but with the electric grid becoming prominent, it's mostly being pushed into the realm of heating.

There are several local radio stations, and radios - older types especially - are the most common electronic device, usually being found in people's homes. Portable radios or music players are a luxury. Occasionally independant broadcasts can be picked up. There are no TV stations, although TVs can be found scattered throughout the city playing recorded media.

Cellular and internet coverage exists within the city. Cell coverage is provided by a small network of scattered towers. Most people will need to bring their phones into a tech cafe or electronics shop to get it adapted for local infrastructure. Local internet connects to tech cafes, libraries, banks, and educational institutions in Marsilion. Games, information, and social media are some of the sites available.

Roads are generally cobblestone on main areas, dirt in others and in alleyways. Speaking of which, to facilitate pedestrian travel, alleyways are extremely common, winding their way through almost every residential area, often the few bits of space that a poorer household has to it's name. Several miles worth of central roads have been paved with cement to facilitate easier travel. The cobblestone roads typically follow roman designs, ensuring good drainage into the storm sewer system.

As it stands, the only way between the districts is on foot, by flight, or perhaps with a carriage. Almost immediately after arrival, plans were made to build a rail system to connect the districts.


The local culture is an extreme melting pot. Denizens from across the multiverse come in, and popular ideas, holidays, and traditions regularly find their way into the common culture.

The diversity occasionally causes tension, but for the most part the mixed cultural heritages contribute richly to local entertainment, with regular gatherings being held to experience music, dance and comedy from other worlds. To this end there are a number of smaller squares along with the larger town square in Marsilion, and most bars or taverns usually have a stage and a night designated for cultural sharing.

Everyday Life

Your everyday, average, middle class citizen in Marsilion enjoys very different comforts from an average person in our world, even if the basic necessities are there. Bathtubs are metal or clay basins with a stove underneath them. Many lights are natural gas lamps, magical light crystals, or a growing number of incandescent light bulbs. Electricity is developing and many places have yet to be fitted with wiring. Candles are made of tallow, not wax, as is soap. The diet of the average Marsilion citizen includes more meat than people had historically, but still only in small portions, as it's expensive. With the development of the electrical grid and growth of infrastructure, one might be able to compare life to the early 1900-1920s in the developed world, once the infrastructure in the given neighborhood has been built. All of these things can be surpassed - if you have money.


Marsilion originally came from another nexus world entirely- old Infinitas, as itâ₠http™s called now. It was one of a number of cities trapped on an island. Several years before it came to its new home, it was ruled by a cabal of oligarchs colloquially known as the Traders. As a war broke out between the Traders and the other powers of old Infinitas, locals of Marsilion rose up and overthrew the traders, installing the democratic government which exists today.

As Marsilion grew in power, it faced greater and greater threats. (insert bits of previous plots here)

Mere weeks before its arrival, Marsilion fell under the spell of a magic reality altering bubble. While this bubble was intact, it blocked interdimensional events from occurring, leading to a catastrophic build up of energy. On the Day of Arrival, Marsilion was torn from its old location and broken apart into the districts it now finds itself split into.

While there is no public school system in Marsilion, there are a number of private schools and private daycares. Many people who find themselves magically inclined can receive tutelage at the Marsilion Magic Guild, often being offered discounts if they show potential. They also can receive free safety lessons on magic, as that is in the publicâ₠http™s interest.


Marsilion's economy is traditionally focused around grain, fruit, and dairy farming, with a heavy agrarian population, and a secondary focus on fishery. After the overthrow of the trade barons on old infinitas, the industry in the city started modernizing and growing in capacity thanks to the war effort, making jobs easy to be had. After being drawn to the new world, a lot of effort is being undertaken to make Marsilion self sufficient with room for growth.

After the establishment of the electric grid, Marsilion's had a swiftly growing manufacturing sector. With electricity, high quality metal foundry's have been established, and previously unusable materials like aluminum have started to become reasonably commonplace. Thanks to the efforts of the Generalist's Guild, Marsilion's also established itself as a good place for magic users who don't wish to be part of the northern magocracy to set up shop, leading to a growing magical goods sector.

The currency of Marsilion is the Florin, and it shares this with Porton and now Arcford. Coins, like in all other cities on the isle, exist in both stamped and unstamped varieties.

The base unit of currency, the florin, can be assumed to be worth about 50 USD, and is a small gold stamped coin. Lesser denominations exist, in the Centiflorin (50 cents), Milliflorin (5 cents), deciflorin (5 USD,) and so on.

Banks exist in Marsilion, and they are usually controlled by banking families, most of which have a heavy Trade Union presence or are even owned and operated by Politiker lords themselves, those that were not removed or arrested during the events of the Second Infinitas War. There are four banks in total, two of which are considered "major": The Harmad Trust, controlled by the Harmad family, and the Southern Infinitas Bank or SIB, controlled by a cabal of former trade unionists who were not arrested for their part in the war.
